Why Your “Diet” May Be Flawed…

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Photo by Heather WegemerThe majority of Americans are on some form of a "diet" right now.  But by February, many of them will fall back into their old habits.  Why?  Why do so many people fail when they really only just got started?  Why didn't their "diet" and new way of life stick longterm?

A facebook and twitter colleague @tomhfit of  Team Holland wrote on his wall yesterday:

If your "diet" has an end date, it is flawed from day one.

Having a date of completion motivates us to give it our all.  After all, this is what competitive athletes do – train hard for their next competition and then rest.  The big difference is that these athletes continue to seek out new goals to fuel their inner fire.  There is no ultimate end date.  Instead, there are multiple landmarks along the way.

A "dieter" on the other hand typically says, "by XXX, I will be XXX weight."  Then what?  Do they have an action plan for post weight loss?  Do they set themselves up with another goal if they reach this first one?  What if they fail?  Do they give up?  The answer to this last question is often a big resounding YES.  And often a big NO for the first two.

What's Good About Having An End Date?

In my client session this morning, we spoke about the importance of dates and how motivating it can be.  She will be participating in my 21-Day Group Detoxification Program and is excited to plunge forward  knowing that she can do this…after all, it's only 21-days.

Yes, an end date allows us to put our eye on the prize.  It motivates us to be our best for a set number of days and then to celebrate our accomplishments!  It forces us to get off our butts and do something new that is good for us!

The Bad News About Having An End Date…

If you don't have an action plan for after your set number of days, you're doomed.  You must, must, must incorporate everything you've learned into your way of life.  Goodbye are the days of crash dieting and hello to the days of lifestyle management.

Your end date can give you permission to binge.  One celebration or one night of sugar coated snacks leads to another and another and yet another….until you are back to your old weight and then some.

Shall I Keep or Toss?

Keep your dates but never look to your dates as finality.  Instead, keep giving yourself new challenges to keep yourself on track.  Model your efforts after your athlete friends or look to a professional athlete for inspiration.  View your "diet" as a way of life.  If you can't do this, than it's not the right diet for you.  Or, your diet just needs to be modified to meet your goals and needs.

So, use dates but make them plentiful and ongoing.  Be kind to your body and take care of it daily, not just every January.  It's a New Year and you can make every month, week or even day a reason to put health as a top priority in your life.

21-Day Group Detox Programs (January 2011)

Monday, December 13th, 2010

Join me this January to detoxify and cleanse your body!  All programs begin in early January 2011 (see specific dates and times below).  This is a food-based program that is gentle, safe and highly effective.

Chemicals, Chemicals, Chemicals:

Over the past several decades our environment has become increasingly more toxic.  We are exposed to hundreds of toxic chemicals from our air, water and food supply.  The accumulation of these toxins can create a Total Toxin Overload which can greatly impact our overall health.

Optimal Health:

Toxins may be to blame if you experience headaches, fatigue, joint pains, insomnia, mood changes, weakened immunity or GI issues.  Many of these symptoms are relieved or eliminated during a detoxification program.  Your liver, gallbladder, digestive system and entire body will have the opportunity to be restored to optimal functioning and health.

Quality Counts:

There are many cleanse and detox programs on the market.  It is important to note that this program is a medically sound and scientifically based by supporting BOTH Phase I and Phase II detoxification (strictly juice cleanses and fasts only support Phase I).

I provide you with high quality professional-grade supplementation.  For instance, the amino acid content of your protein powder resembles that of mother's milk.  You will also be eating REAL food.

Due to its gentle yet effective nature, you will feel good on this program and have the energy to be focussed at work and with your family.

Key Benefits Can Include:

Weight Loss
Clearer Skin
Improved Digestion
Increased Energy
Balanced Blood Sugar
Better Sleep
Stress Reduction
Hormonal Balance
Strengthened Immunity

Program Overview:

The 21-Day Program is designed to gently and safely take your body through the detoxification process.  The first week is a slow build to modify your diet and introduce the supplements.  The second and third weeks you will enjoy an abundance of whole foods along with two meal replacement shakes.

For success, it is recommended that you eliminate all alcohol, caffeine, gluten, dairy, red meat and sugar during your program.  Don't worry, there are plenty of other foods you CAN eat!

Sample Testimonials:

"I dropped quite a few pounds for my body size, saw my sleep improve drastically, improved my education levels around food and am now back to working out and/or playing sports 5 times a week.  This detox program was one of the greatest health experiences I have had in my life.  The program exceeded all of my expectations and I know for sure that I would repeat it in the future.  If you are considering a detox , I would highly recommend it and you can trust that Alison will provide you with a fantastic program, support and her knowledge." ~ P.

"Alison has a wonderfully calm way about her, and you know she deeply cares about your health.  She's not just jumping on the latest nutritional trend.  She's been thorough and walks her talk.  Clearly, Alison wanted to make sure her services and products (the cleanse food products) were of the highest quality.  And they were.  I'm a sensitive gal, and I felt the benefits of this cleanse on many levels.  For example, I stopped craving sugar.  Alison gets my recommendation.  If you're looking for a nutritionist you can trust, look no further." ~ C.

"The results have been great.  I am down 20 pounds…best yet, I have dropped four inches from my waist.  My wife has also dropped 8 pounds and her body has changed as well." ~ J.
