A Common Food Sensitivity

Many of the common, everyday foods can cause slight to severe reactions within certain individuals.   These foods may exacerbate health conditions or even certain behaviors.   Or, they might trigger skin problems or digestive upset.

It can be difficult to reduce or eliminate certain foods that one is allergic too b/c they are within so many different products and often disguised under various names.   One example is corn.

Corn can be found in a variety of foods like cereals, baked goods, snack foods, candies, infant formulas, jams, alcohol, popcorn, syrups, grits, and even deli meats.

No matter what your dietary restrictions are (or aren’t!) it’s always a good idea to read your labels.   If you’ve got sensitivities to corn, you might want to be weary of these ingredients:

  • Baking powder
  • High fructose corn syrup
  • Starch – cereal, corn, food, modified
  • Maize
  • Glucose syrup
  • Vegetable gum, paste, starch or protein
