A Different Kind Of Menu
This menu does not involve the food that we eat and is better than that which you will ever find at any restaurant in any part of the world. This menu will touch the deepest level of your being and can be used as often as needed. When we are down in the dumps, have the urge to devour an entire box of chocolates or are feeling sluggish this is a sign that we are deficient in some items on our personal nourishment menu. What’s a nourishment menu you ask?
A nourishment menu is something that you create with the special you in mind. Think back to the times where you felt “at home,” comforted, and secure. When did you last feel vibrant and alive? What brings you ultimate joy and happiness? Create a list that captures these events, times and activities. Perhaps it was a walk alone on the beach bundled up on a cold brisk winter day or maybe it was the time you called your girlfriend to talk about the latest trends. Whatever it is, was or can be jot everything down on paper.
Now evaluate your list and make sure that you have at least 20 items listed. If you are struggling to come up with 20, make up the remaining ones! Do you like to sing in the shower, go apple picking or get a massage? How about bubble baths, the local tea shop or purchasing some fresh flowers? The more variety and choices on your list, the healthier relationship you will have with yourself.
Whenever you are in an emotional rut, ready to pig out on Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, can’t seem to get off the couch or are stressed out at your job, take a look at your menu and select one item that will feed the parts of you that have been neglected. Keep this list posted on your refrigerator door, on the desktop of your computer, in a private journal or share it with a close friend. Rather than suffer from a tailspin downwards opt to select a healthier choice by using this personalized menu. I guarantee you will feel better!
You can even use your creativity further by designing a collage to go along with your list or naming the list something that rings true to you. Often when we are stressed, upset or not feeling at our best we will make poor choices. This menu will guide you to a better way of being. Try it and let me know what you think!
